Resume / Bio:
Steve (Tuna) Turner
Growing up in Florida in the 60's, I began playing drums at the age of 10, and in bands by 12, and joined the AFM at the age of 14. Bands, union gigs, big band beach gigs, all through high school, and clubs and regional bands all through college, gave me a good background in performance, while working my way through FSU. While earning a Bachelor of Music in Applied Percussion, I played and was very active in the foundation of Florida States jazz lab band program, and at a point was the drummer for both bands, great experience. After graduating from FSU, (1974), I moved to the heart of the business at that time, L A, Hollywood, and started working right away at the Baked Potato, the best jazz club at the time with Don Randi in the house band, Quest. A great way to start recording with some of the best studio guys in the world, the wrecking crew etc., and I was 24ish. Soon I started taking some road gigs, but also recording with them as well;
1. Roger Miller...........................tour 1 1/2 yrs 1 album
2. Lou Rawls..............................tour 1 yr 1 album (LIve on Broadway)
3. Glen Campbell......................Touring 8 yrs 9 albums lots of T.V.
4. Emmy Lou Harris..................tour 1 year 1 album (13)
5. Don Williams.........................Touring 7 yrs all together, 3 albums
6. Dolly Parton...........................Touring 25 yrs 6 albums at least, lots of T.V. ( Leno, Fallon tonight shows) world tours since 2007
7. Travis Tritt..............................tour only 4 shows, but 5 cds (most known for T_R_O_U_B_L_E), 20 million plus units sold and 11 no. 1's
8. 90's saw many no. 1 singles and cds from Collin Rae, Dolly, Marty Stuart, Waylon, Travis, etc., as well as 4 yrs in the house band on "Prime Time Country", and 15 CMA house band, and numerous T.V. specials
Now Days, Dolly tours Europe and Australia mostly, every other year, with a yearly cd on the off year. I'm concentrating on writing, producing bands, demos, jingles and an occasional released cd, with a couple session days a week for others. I play in my church worship team, Fernvale Community Church, and live across the river in the old general store, a magical place to have my studio. I feel very blessed to have had an awesome career in music, and kinda feel like I'm just getting started.
